Angers, the world capital of mitochondrial medicine
From May 31, 2026 to June 4, 2026
- For almost a week, Angers will host more than 850 researchers, doctors and specialists for the EuroMit 2026 international conference. This is the world’s leading event in the field of research into diseases involving mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells.
- The European Valesor project, led by the University of Angers, has just been completed. The project has produced an online tool that enables users to visualise the societal and individual costs of exposure to health-affecting chemicals and air pollution, and to simulate the benefits of specific reduction measures. This innovation is intended to inform public debate and future policy decisions.
- The work of Yves Denéchère, scientific coordinator of the AdoptRisk programme, has inspired an OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) module dedicated to illegal practices in the adoption of foreign children. Designed by students with the support of the Angers University Library (BUA), it offers a documented exploration of a subject that is increasingly prominent in the public sphere.
- On Monday 16 March, the University of Angers welcomed a delegation from Appalachian State University (North Carolina) to mark the 30th anniversary of the partnership between the two institutions. Discussions focused on new avenues for cooperation, particularly regarding sustainable development and its integration into degree programmes.

- Awarded in 2020, the HR Excellence in Research label promotes improved working conditions for researchers at the University of Angers. Following a staff survey conducted last year, a new plan of action has been drawn up.
- How can we better promote the heritage of the great Atlantic expeditions? This is one of the key challenges addressed by the European Interreg Atlantic Area Agree programme. Three members of the Atlantic Union, specialists in heritage and tourism, are involved in the project, whose ultimate aim is to establish a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
- The ANR Cesiom programme brings together chemists from Moltech and computer scientists from Leria to develop a strategy using artificial intelligence to model and create new organic molecules that react to near-infrared light.

- A Masterclass in Songwriting and intercultural inspiration. Explore the roots and evolution of contemporary folk pop, learn how to craft compelling English lyrics, and develop your skills in song structure, harmonies, and arrangements.

- Marie Sklodowska Curie Action (MSCA) post-doctoral fellowship from the Horizon Europe programme at the University of Angers for post-doc researchers, ready for a new challenge and an international career!
- A thesis will attempt to demonstrate the benefits of modifying the surface of medical prostheses using an ultra-short laser in order to avoid bacteriological risks. The research is being conducted by Antony Ménard at Lphia, in collaboration with the University of Magdeburg, as part of EU-Green.
- In early November 2025, the University of Angers renewed its partnership agreement with the CNRS for the IRL Rehabs project. We take stock with Olivier Pays-Volard, Director of BiodivAG.
- Since 1 October 2025, the Temos research unit has coordinated a programme, supported by the National Research Agency, to increase knowledge about abuses in the adoption of foreign children, as well as those affecting minors born on French soil.
- Challenge for PhD students from UA and EU Green Alliance partner universities: explain your PhD thesis in English, in a clear, impactful, and accessible manner, in just 3 minutes.
- The University of Angers has climbed up the ranks in the 2026 edition of the THE World University Rankings, improving its national and international position after entering the prestigious list last year. This rise is largely due to the university's research activity.
- The France Excellence Eiffel scholarship programme has enabled UA's Mint research unit to host a young Indian researcher since October. For the next three years, Shreya Dey will be conducting research into lung cancer as part of her PhD. This research aims to improve treatment effectiveness for lung cancer.
- The first ten laureates of the European Breath programme gathered in Angers from 20 to 22 October for a welcome session and training courses. All of these doctoral students have international backgrounds and will be working on topics combining health with humanities and social sciences.
- At the Functional Signalling of Ion Channels and Receptors Laboratory (SiFCIR), Valérie Raymond and Delphine Goven are conducting research into new strategies for controlling invasive insects. They will be actively involved in the ParaGluRSite project run by the French National Research Agency (ANR), which began in March 2025.
- "The Lost Connection" is a serious game designed by the EU Green alliance. Released as a premiere during UA's Campus Day on 19 September 2025, this online investigation game offers a fun introduction to OSINT (Open Source Intelligence), an approach that involves collecting and analysing publicly available information.

Postgram: Plant Biology

- The Postgram micro master's programme lets third-year undergraduate students explore up to 25% of their future master's degree courses through an interactive online programme.

- The EUGREEN alliance and the Erasmus+ project SLS4TEENS partners brought together experts from Germany, Spain and Italy for workshops on innovative language learning methods.
- Teacher-researchers from the University of Angers are involved in a European project aimed at improving nutrition training for doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists and nurses.
- The Analysis and Processes Group (GA&P), led by Maxime Pontié, takes part in the E-SPFdigit European research project on polluted soils. The Anjou research team is particularly interested in PFAS.
- Delphine Guedat-Bittighoffer, a teacher-researcher at Cirpall, has been coordinating the Second Language Learning at School for all teenagers (SLS4Teens) research project since 2023. The teachers and researchers of the EU Green alliance met in Spain in mid-March for a progress report.
- The KulturA programme is a trilingual intercultural programme in the English-German section of the LLCER bachelor's degree in partnership with the University of Kassel (Germany). Students Vera, Svenja and Hannah talk about their life at the UA.
