THE World University Rankings: UA on the rise!
The University of Angers has climbed up the ranks in the 2026 edition of the THE World University Rankings, improving its national and international position after entering the prestigious list last year. This rise is largely due to the university's research activity.
Considered one of the three best global university rankings, the THE World University Rankings, produced by Times Higher Education magazine, takes into account nearly 3,000 institutions in over 100 countries and ranks more than two-thirds of these institutions each year. 18 performance indicators are taken into account, divided into five categories, assessing universities according to their fundamental missions:
- teaching (learning environment)
- research environment (volume, funding and reputation)
- research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence)
- skills transfer (income and patents)
- international outlook (staff, students and research)
The results for 2026 were announced in October 2025. The University of Angers is progressing on a global scale. This year, UA appears in the 1001st to 1200th slot (out of 2,191 institutions ranked), whereas last year it was in the 1,201–1,500 slot (out of 2,092 institutions). Nationally, UA has moved up from 39th to 30th place out of the 48 French universities that were ranked this year, compared to 50 in 2025.
UA has made progress in all five pillars of the ranking, particularly in the "Quality of Research" category (51.1 compared to 43.6/100 in 2025 - 1140th place worldwide) and in the "Research Environment" category (23.1 compared to 14.1/100 in 2025 - 752nd place worldwide). This improvement in overall score is a testament to the institution's commitment to academic excellence. Its best result was achieved in the "International Outlook" pillar (425th place worldwide), which illustrates its strong positioning towards Europe and the rest of the world — an area in which it was already recognised in the Leiden and QS World University Rankings Europe.
