International rankings: UA on the rise
The University of Angers confirms its position among the top 25-30 French universities in all the rankings in which it features. These good results are also reflected in its position in international rankings.
UA is standing out in the field of clinical medicine, with a steady rise in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) since 2019 into the world TOP 400, a first entry in the QS World University Rankings by Subject ranking in 2023, as well as maintaining its position in the Leiden and U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings.
• GRAS
The Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) highlights the strengths of research at UA.
UA saw its position improve in the 2022 edition of the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, published on 20 July 2022. UA has maintained its position in three key areas of research in Angers:
- Health (Clinical Sciences) ranked as in 2021 between 301st and 400th in the world (and 15th in France);
- Plant Sciences, with a strong presence in the Agricultural Sciences category (ranked between 301st to 400th worldwide and 19th in France);
- Biological Sciences, where it ranked between 401st and 500th (21st among French institutions).
UA has recently made a remarkable entry in the Earth Sciences category, ranking between 151st and 200th in the world (17th in France).
• Leiden
The Center for Science and Technology Studies at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands publishes its ranking every June, based on four key indicators: scientific impact, collaboration, open access and gender. It recognizes institutions in all their complexity and variety, taking into account their contexts and missions, so as to explore their performance from different angles.
The University of Angers stands out on a global and national scale in the following areas: gender (4th in France for the ratio of female authors among all authors at UA), international collaboration (81st in the world for the ratio of publications with external co-authors, and 24th in France), and Open Access (223rd in the world and 22nd in France for the proportion of open access articles in total output).
• CWUR
The good performance of research at UA is also confirmed year after year in the CWUR ranking (world TOP 700).
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) also highlighted the quality of research and education at UA. The CWUR is the only global ranking that measures the quality of education and training for students, as well as the reputation of researchers and the quality of their work.
Philippe Simoneau, Vice-President of Research at UA, is delighted: "UA confirms its research dynamism, already illustrated by the CWUR and Leiden rankings. As far as GRAS is concerned, we have strengthened our position in the three areas related to Biological Sciences, which were already present in last year's rankings, and we have entered the Earth Sciences category".
