UA is supporting researchers and students from Ukraine

Since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine, the University of Angers has been working to help displaced researchers and students.

UA’s President Christian Robledo made a point of supporting these refugees regardless of nationality and consequently, the International Office has set up an e-mail address to receive requests from researchers and students displaced from Ukraine.

UA takes action

To date, nearly 150 Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian students have contacted the University through ua.solidarity@univ-angers.fr to apply to continue their studies, which were abruptly interrupted last February.

They have been offered individual appointments or course guidance webinars. Advisors from UA’s careers centre have presented them with study options in France and more particularly in Angers. They have also been given personalised advice and assistance from the University's social services when needed.

Since 23 May, more than 30 of them have been enrolled in an intensive French course set up by the University's French Language Centre (CeLFE) in collaboration with the Université Catholique de l’Ouest (UCO) and all the main higher education institutions in and around Angers. This course, which consists of intensive French lessons, also includes an introduction to the university environment and French culture.

In addition, UA has set up a special fast-track application procedure. Our faculties and institutes are working to review applications without delay, thus enabling some students to join a course as early as September.

Non-French-speaking students are encouraged to apply for the University Diploma in French Studies (DUEF), which is designed to enable them to obtain a sufficient French language level to enrol in a French-taught course in higher education.

As part of the PAUSE programme, UA has welcomed Ukrainian women researchers allowing them to pursue and finance their research work within the MOLTECH and GRANEM laboratories. 
Since March, 3 researchers and their families have been guided step by step in their settling in and their new life in Angers by UA’s Research Department, International Office and Health Service.
